The examined groundwaters, orginating from the fractured type of aquifer formed by Pre- Middle Jurassic ultramafic rocks, i. e. harzburgites, dunites, lherzolites and serpentinites, belong to the fresh hyperalkaline cold groundwaters of OH, Cl – Ca, Na + K genetic type. Studied occurrence was characterized by the presence of aerobic cultivable bacteria with ability to grow in a pH range of 7-12. Bacterial isolates were screened using plastic,cellulosic and hemicellulosic polymeric substrates as predominantcarbon source to assess their biotechnological potential.
