埼玉県越谷市There are many tone patterns per word in the Minami Izu-cho dialect. The aim of this study is to clarify the acoustic characteristics of tones of the dialect of the middle-aged people of Minami Izu-cho as compared with those in the Tokyo dialect and those in dialect of elderly people of Minami Izu-cho. The result revealed that there are different tendencies of fundamental frequency patterns in the middle-aged people. This indicates two directions of succession and development of phonetics rule "Shotou Sagari" in the elderly people which shows tones going down at the beginning or word
