In this investigation, jute woven fabric has been alkali treated with NaOH solution (1%, 5%, 10% and 17.5%) at room temperature for different periods of time (5 and 30 min). The influence of different treatment conditions on structural properties (yarn linear density, fabric density, fabric thickness and fabric weight) and relative dielectric permeability were studied. Alkali treatment with lower NaOH concentrations (1% and 5%) decreased, but higher NaOH concentrations (10% and 17.5%) increased the yarn linear density. With increasing the concentration of NaOH, fabric density, fabric thickness and fabric weight increased. The duration of the treatment has no significant effect on these properties.
