A Study of TV Shows Watching on th Children's Lives : On the Investigations into the Actual Condition

埼玉県越谷市The following is an analysis of the results of an actual survey of TV viewing by kinderquarteners and young elementary school students. The survey involved preparing a questionnaire which investigated three points: 1) the environment and conditions of children's TV viewing, 2) program content, 3) their parents attitude. The parents of 445 children answered the quwstionnaire. From the survey vesults we have come to the folloewing conclusions: 36.6% of all the families, including even unclear families and those living in small apartments have two TVs or more in the home. Even though the subjects of the study are younger children, there are TVs in 11.8% of the childrens room. Children inalmost all of the families are allowed to watch TV during meal times. Many parents do not restrict their children's choice of TV programs to watch. Many parents evaluate the content of the prpgrams which their children watch positively. Those programs which parents consider unsuitable for their children all have high viewing rates. In response to the question as to the merits of watching TV, parents think that there is a difference between what boys gain what girls gain from it. Boys gain knowledge whereas girls develop sentiment. In response to the question as to the dewerits of TV, parents reply first that it is unhealthy, second that it is too passive, and third that it reduces the power of creative thinking. This survey indicates that although many parents are some what dissatisfied with and voice creaticism of their children's TV viewing, in actuality they leave it up to their children's desire and do not control it. TV is a media for both good and ill inflvences children's grow in varied and complex ways. Parents of small children should be more directly concerned with the relationship between TV viewing and their children's growth
