This thesis investigates the impact of transport infrastructure, specifically level crossing removal projects (LXRP), on community severance. While previous studies have focused on the enabling effects of transport infrastructure, little research has explored their potential as barriers for communities. This study addresses this gap by examining the direct, indirect, and wider barrier removal effects of LXRP in Melbourne. A combination of quantitative and qualitative data collection methods was used to assess residents' perceptions and objective changes in their urban environment. The results show that LXRP has positive effects on walking, cycling, and travel time, but communication strategies are needed to raise awareness of these benefits...
