An axi- symmetric finite element method is developed to analyze the behavior of single pile due to both vertical load (PO) at the pile head and negative friction (NF) along the pile shaft. The solid element for cohesive soil is derived from the effective stress theory and the consolidation theory. The linkage element which has the spring and slider is used for between the pile shaft and the soil. Three kinds of single pile model having a prescribed coefficient of subgrade reaction of pile tip are analyzed by the method. The effects of the order of PO and NF which are suffered to these piles upon the axial force distribution along the pile shaft are discussed. These results suggest the estimation method by A.I.J. Code should be improved
