Typhoon Morakot was the most damaging typhoon to make rainfall in half a century, caused serious damages to southern Taiwan. Most major highways and bridges located in the area suffered severe damages such as landslides, rockfalls and debris flows in addition. It caused significant loss of lives, property and an economic loss of over US$5 billion. The administration system identified 675 dead and 24 persons missing in addition. One of the most important watersheds on the island (Taiwan), the Lawnon River Basin suffered from the severest slope disasters during this event, was selected for study.
