Experimental and computational study on the removal of uranium and cadmium from phosphoric acid solution by ion exchange

The main objective of this thesis was to study on Cd removal from phosphoric acid solution using both strong acid ion exchange resin Purolite CT-175 containing sulfonic groups and, solvent impregnated resins with Cyanex 302 and with Aliquat 336. The aim, with the inclusion of experimental data on U, was achieved by determining kinetic and equilibrium properties of both ion exchange (Purolite CT-175 and Purolite S940) and solvent impregnated resins. Five kinetic models have been applied to fit the data obtained by a series of batch experiments to find the mass transfer mechanism of the process. The results of statistical analysis indicate that the rate determining step is particle diffusion control for Purolite CT-175 and particle and film diffusion control for solvent impregnated resins. The data collected from column experiments were used in a model study for design purpose. The results of computer simulations gave column characteristics on both mass transfer and hydrodynamics. Keywords: Ion exchange, breakthrough, elution, metal removal.Bu tezin başlıca hedefi, bir ağır metal iyonu olan Cd (Il)'nin fosforik asit çözeltilerinden kuvvetli asidik bir iyon değiştirici reçine olan Purolite CT-175 ile Cyanex 302 ve Aliquat 336 çözgenleri emdirilerek hazırlanmış reçineler kullanılarak uzaklaştırılmasıdır. Bu amaçla; Cd(H)'nin iyon değiştirme yolu ile uzaklaştırılması, laboratuvar ölçekli denemelerle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Cd(H) gideriminde kullanılan sülfonik türden bir reçine olan Purolite CT-175, çözgen emdirilmiş reçineler ve U geri kazanımında kullanılan iyon değiştirici reçine Purolite S940 ile yapılan kesikli denemelerle, reçinelerin iyon değişim kinetiği, çeşitli modeller kullanılarak incelenmiştir Uyuşum katsayılarının belirli güven düzeylerindeki istatistiksel analizleri neticesinde, hızı belirleyen adımın, Purolite CT-175 ve Purolite S940 için tanecik yayınımı, çözgen emdirilmiş reçineler için ise hem tanecik, hem de film yayınımı olduğu saptanmıştır. Kolon çalışmaları ile elde edilen salıverme eğrilerinin, Thomas çözümüne uyarlanarak tasarım parametrelerinin bulunması, geliştirilen bir MathCad programı yardımıyla yapılmıştır
