In order to effectively utilize renewable energy and settle environmental pollution problem, solar energy is used to power Rankine cycle of employing carbon dioxide as working fluid for power generation, heat supply, and air conditioning etc. The paper presents a study on some basic characteristics of the Rankine cycle, including the effect of solar radiation on power generation, heat quantity obtained from the cycle, and environmental aspect. The experimental prototype has been designed and constructed. The set of experimental set-up is mainly comprised of evacuated solar collector, pressure relief valve, CO2-water heat exchangers, CO2 feed pump, and cooling tower.
