Consistency between the angular and distance measuring units of electronic tacheom- eters do not exist because the previous one is much more precise. Error in distance measure- ment is supposed to imply a systematic component too, but separating it from the error the accuracy in distance measurement can be improved. In the paper the layout of a laboratory investigation of electronic tacheometers phase meter unit has been introduced illustrating a method for determination of the residual function that eliminates the periodic systematic errors, besides, features of the baseline established in laboratorv for checking the amending character of the residual function is aIso given
