Home Economics education has managed to survive in Ontario despite a long and rough journey. The subject area is now called Family Studies. It is listed under the Social Sciences and Humanities curriculum. Name changes resulting from the dismantling of university programs in Home Economics have led to problems in teacher education and subsequently to the teaching qualifications. Despite the demise there are public calls for Home Economics related knowledge and skills, particularly in food literacy.
