In this paper, I review how Canada’s Food Guide was developed and how it can be used in Home Economics classrooms. With the release of the newest version of the CFG, there has been a shift in understanding food as more than just the nutrients it provides. The new guide encourages enjoying food, eating mindfully, and preparing food at home as strategies to develop positive relationships with food and healthy eating habits. I describe the origins of dietary guidelines, specifically food guides, and explore the changes over time. I describe how BC's past and current home economics curriculum has approached using CFG in teaching nutrition and food literacy.
