Flexible Design for Future Nomadic Living

Architecture, especially housing, serves as a vessel for life. It is also a reflection of inhabitants’ personalities, interests and lifestyles, which would be very diverse. Although current housing design can meet the needs and demands of most people, it is still based on the architect’s and designers’ imagination, and users are abstracted as a series of data. This approach overlooks social diversity and fails to respond adequately to different or evolving needs. My thesis explores one possibility/a new typology of housing in the future when the science and technology is highly developed including building materials and machinery. It allows users to personalize their living space and gives individuals more freedom to choose and design their space, thereby improving the efficiency and comfort of space use.
