Risk of Natural Disaster Analysis: The individual's perception in relation to the characteristics of the urban environment in Brazilian cities

Climate change and the lack of planning in cities affect the quality of life of individuals and decrease their sense of security in the environment in which they live. However, what are the main characteristics of the urban environment that are most associated with the perception of risk of natural disasters? This paper presents the analysis of the correlation between the perception of risks of natural disasters and the main characteristics associated with public services and neighborhood maintenance and satisfaction with housing. The research collected data with the help of a questionnaire. The results showed that insecurity with environmental phenomena negatively influences satisfaction. The variables cleaning streets and sidewalks, water and sewage, internet and telephone and paving showed an inverse relationship. Thus, neighborhoods with public infrastructure services with quality and maintenance influence the perception of individuals about the feeling of protection against possible natural disasters in the environment. Keywords: urban environment, perception, urban planning, environmental disasters, multivariate analysis.As mudanças climáticas e a falta de planejamento das cidades afetam a qualidade de vida dos indivíduos e diminuem sua sensação de segurança no ambiente em que vivem. Entretanto, quais são as principais características do meio urbano que estão mais associadas à percepção de risco de desastres naturais? Este trabalho apresenta a análise da correlação entre percepção de riscos de desastres naturais e as principais características associadas aos serviços públicos e manutenção do bairro e a satisfação com a habitação. A pesquisa levantou dados com o auxílio de um questionário. Os resultados mostraram que a insegurança com fenômenos ambientais influencia negativamente a satisfação. As variáveis limpeza das ruas e calçadas, água e esgoto, internet e telefone e pavimentação apresentaram uma relação inversa. Assim, bairros com serviços públicos de infraestrutura com qualidade e manutenção exercem influência na percepção dos indivíduos sobre a sensação de proteção contra possíveis desastres naturais no meio.
