Revisitando o conceito de patrimônio geológico: pela superação da dicotomia entre o natural e o cultural

Geological heritage, understood as an emerging concept, has expanded considerably in academic debate since the 1990s. However, it is commonly taken as an autonomous object to other heritage categories, such as natural and cultural. In addition, attempts to make it more integrated to society in general remain constant, seeking ways to “translate” the geological language to the general public. Taking these issues into consideration, this article aims to discuss the concept of geological heritage and its meanings, proposing an interpretation that highlights its links and connections with the so-called cultural heritage, and that considers it beyond the geological object itself. To accomplish this goal, the article is based on a theoretical and qualitative research that starts with a historical review of the term "heritage" and searches in its roots for data to think about the way it is contemporarily interpreted. Then, the emergence of geological heritage and its deep relations and convergences with the so-called cultural heritage are explored. Finally, it is exposed a brief resumption of the Brazilian experiences with the seal of Cultural Landscape and its affinity with the themes of Geoparks and geological heritage.O patrimônio geológico, entendido como um conceito emergente, tem se ampliado consideravelmente no debate acadêmico desde a década de 1990. Entretanto, é comumente abordado como um objeto autônomo a outras categorias patrimoniais, como a natural e a cultural. Além disso, permanecem constantes as tentativas de torná-lo mais integrado à sociedade em geral, buscando modos de “traduzir” a linguagem geológica ao público leigo. Levando essas problemáticas em consideração, este artigo possui como objetivo discutir o conceito de patrimônio geológico e seus significados, propondo uma interpretação que ressalte os seus vínculos e conexões com o chamado patrimônio cultural e que o considere para além do objeto geológico em si. Para cumprir esse objetivo, o artigo está baseado em uma investigação teórica e qualitativa que parte de uma retomada histórica sobre o termo “patrimônio” e busca em suas raízes dados para pensar o modo que este é interpretado contemporaneamente. Em seguida, é explorada a emergência do patrimônio geológico e suas profundas relações e convergências com o chamado patrimônio cultural. Por fim, é exposta uma breve recuperação da experiência brasileira com a chancela de Paisagem Cultural e sua afinidade com as temáticas dos Geoparques e do patrimônio geológico
