Musikterapi för barn som går igenom stamcellstransplantation

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a challenging treatment for severe hematological diseases and there is a need for supportive interventions. The doctoral studies evaluated both physiological and psychological parameters whether music therapy can be helpful for children during and after HSCT. The children in the music therapy group had significantly reduced heart rate in the evening compared to the control group (p< 0.001) and the children’s quality of life improved significantly after music therapy. Children’s and parents’ experiences of the interactive process during the music therapy intervention were also investigated. The participants described feelings of joy, recognition and were emotionally affected. The focus of this article is to present the second and third articles in the doctoral thesis. In conclusion: music therapy can be a complementary and effective intervention during and after HSCT for children.Hematopoetisk stamcellstransplantation (HSCT) är en fysiskt och psykiskt påfrestande behandling för svåra hematologiska sjukdomar och det finns ett stort behov av stödjande interventioner. Doktorandstudierna utvärderade både fysiologiska och psykologiska parametrar huruvida musikterapi kan vara hjälpsamt för barn under och efter HSCT. Den randomiserade kliniska studien visade dels att barnen i musikterapigruppen hade signifikant reducerad puls på kvällen jämfört med kontrollgruppen (p< 0.001) samt att barnens livskvalitet förbättrades signifikant efter musikterapi. Den kvalitativa studien undersökte barnens och föräldrarnas erfarenheter av den interaktiva processen under musikterapiinerventionen. Tre teman presenterades: erfarenheter av kompetens och erkänsla av själv, interaktiv affektreglering som potential för förändring samt den terapeutiska relationens betydelse.
