Primary production is a key feature for the functioning of aquatic ecosystems. The trophic state of the streams reflects this primary production and is influenced by local limnological variables and level of integrity of the watershed. Thus, in this study, habitat integrity index (HII) and physical, chemical, and biological parameters of tropical streams were sampled in two sub-basins to understand the functioning of these ecosystems. We hypothesized that the variables association to the environmental integrity should determine the primary production in the streams.
