Trend Questions Climate (July 2021): Waste

On behalf of the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government, the opinion research institute Kantar surveys attitudes towards climate protection and the assessment of political measures for climate protection on a quarterly basis. In the 3rd quarter of 2021, questions on waste avoidance and waste separation formed a thematic focus.Concern about the consequences of climate change; assessment of the appropriateness of political measures for climate protection; informedness about possibilities to contribute to climate protection; waste avoidance: shopping behaviour (buying cheap products, unhygienic, buying food unpacked, use of paper bags or thin plastic bags, own bags or baskets for transport); waste separation: Informedness about waste separation; frequency of waste separation in own household; reasons why waste is not separated; Evaluation of the measures taken by the German government and the EU to reduce packaging and disposable products (ban on disposable cutlery, plates, drinking straws and cotton buds made of plastic, ban on fast food packaging made of polystyrene, ban on the sale of plastic bags in shops, extension of the mandatory deposit to all plastic bottles and cans, obligation for delivery services and restaurants to also offer reusable containers to take away their food and drinks); attitude towards fee for parcel returns in online trade. Demography: sex; age; highest level of education; occupation; household size; number of persons in the household aged 14 and over; party preference; voter eligibility; household net income (grouped); survey by mobile or landline.
