Lifestyle of Japanese Students in the U.S. Who Had Taken the American Social Skills Learning Session before Their Stay in the U.S.: Focusing on Interpersonal Behavior and Relationships

The authors of this paper have been providing Japanese students with American social skills learning sessions as part of their pre-study-abroad training. This paper analyzes how the students used their social skills while in the U.S. and how their cross-cultural adaptation transpired by examining a case study. Four female students from the pre-departure session participated in a questionnaire survey and interview process in the U.S. conducted by the first author of the paper. The results show that all the students began to network with people around them during the first stage of their study abroad. Moreover, they also made use of the skills they had learned while studying in the U.S. This implies that the skill learning session worked as an opportunity to understand the American rules for human relationships and provided the students with a way to network with people in the U.S.平成19年～20年度科学研究費補助金(萌芽研究No.19653099)髙濵,
