The authors of this paper have been providing Japanese students with American social skills learning sessions as part of their pre-study-abroad training. This paper analyzes how the students used their social skills while in the U.S. and how their cross-cultural adaptation transpired by examining a case study. Four female students from the pre-departure session participated in a questionnaire survey and interview process in the U.S. conducted by the first author of the paper. The results show that all the students began to network with people around them during the first stage of their study abroad.
