International audienceNuclear nanomedicine forms a new research field based on the synergy of nuclear medicine and nanotechnology and implying the use of nanomaterials as carriers of diagnostic or therapeutic radionuclides. Such an approach promises a series of advantages over classical methods of nuclear medicine, including an increased surface area-to-volume ratio, passive/active delivery, high loading capacity, large cross-section in interactions with biological tissues, and unique properties of nanomaterials that make possible many functionalities within one construct.
