Tissue engineering (TE) applies scientific and clinical techniques to restore and regenerate tissues using scaffolds, stem cells, growth factors and gene therapy, and, for orthopaedic surgery, has evolved to meet a clinical need to develop suitable alternatives to current bone grafting techniques.
