Diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) are highly prevalent amongst diabetics (60 M) and a major economic burden (760 billion USD). DFU are chronic wounds refractory to surgical debridement and therapeutic dressings, with15-20% of cases requiring limb amputation. Tissue engineering solutions such as Omnigraft®, a collagen-glycosaminoglycan (CG) scaffold, resolved 50% of DFUs; thus, there is still an unmet clinical need. In this thesis, human inducible pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) derived fibroblasts are explored, as a source of material for scaffold fabrication.
