Cardiovascular- and cardiometabolic sequela after vascular complicated pregnancies

Women who have experienced preeclampsia have a greatly increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease later in life, often at a young age. Despite this knowledge, there is still no good routine post-pregnancy monitoring to identify personal risk in order to use the risk factors present to reduce the risk. Traditional risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol, probably play an important role in this increased risk in the years after pregnancy. Early detection and treatment of these risk factors can lower your risk of cardiovascular disease. This thesis examines whether the clinical severity of preeclampsia, that is, early in pregnancy with or without fetal growth restriction, influences the occurrence of these risk factors. Because hypertension is the most important risk factor for cardiovascular disease, we also examined which factors in the first year after pregnancy are predictive of new-onset hypertension in the decade thereafter
