Systemic inflammation, as evidenced by elevated inflammatory cytokines, is a feature of advanced renal failure and predicts worse survival. Dialysate IL-6 concentrations associate with variability in peritoneal small solute transport rate (PSTR), which has also been linked to patient survival.
