Subsynchronous Resonance (SSR) is a potential problem in series compensated power systems. This paper addresses the effect of Fixed Speed Induction Generator-Based Wind Turbines (FSIG-WTs) on SSR. The IEEE first benchmark model for SSR studies has been adopted and modified to investigate the effect of FSIG-WTs. The potential occurrence of the SSR caused by series compensation has been studied. The influences of series compensation level and wind farm rating have been assessed. For these studies, eigenvalue analysis in MATLAB and nonlinear simulations in PSCAD/EMTDC have been employed.
