Barkhausen noise (BN) is an important magnetic phenomenon in applications as diverse as magnetic recording and non-destructive testing of steels. It is very sensitive to changes in the microstructure and stress state of a material but interpretation of BN data is still problematic. Recent developments in digital data acquisition technology has led to greater sampling speeds and increased measurement resolutions enabling the possibility to measure and analyse BN with greater precision. In this paper, BN is shown to be dependent on the data acquisition sampling frequency, which must therefore be taken into account when interpreting BN signals
