Archaeological Investigations at Hatton's Farm, Longstanton, Cambridgeshire : Part II - Watching Brief Monitoring

An archaeological field evaluation was undertaken across a 80 ha site in advance of a new golf course at Longstanton, Cambridge, in January 1991 (Evans 1991). The results of this work highlighted the intensity of activity in two known archaeologically sensitive areas, where the cropmarks of both irregular and rectilinear Iron Age/Romano-British enclosures were associated with field systems and droveways (Site I - SMR: 09548; TL 404672 and Site II - SMR: 08296; TL 399673). In addition a previously unknown Iron Age settlement, preserved beneath the mound of a Medieval windmill, was also discovered (Site III, Hatton’s Mill: TL 4002 6707). An extensive Medieval landscape of open fields covered the development area and the pattern of the plough headlands was recorded
