Factores que influyen en la juventud mexicana para emprender un agronegocio

Presently, entrepreneurship has great importance, both for entrepreneurs and for public and private institutions. In Mexico, there are few studies about the decision that young people make to undertake an agribusiness. The objective of this study is to analyze the impact of individual and socioeconomic characteristics on the probability of young people deciding to undertake –specifically– an agribusiness. The study was developed in the Mexican national territory with 3213 young people. The information necessary was gathered through a questionnaire and the support from fourteen academic groups from different universities of the country; twogroups were formed that are different, with young people from the North and from the South. Applying a logit type discrete binary selection model, the study concludes that men are more determined to undertake an agribusiness than women, in the national and regional scope. The North region of Mexico contrasts clearly with the South region in the decision of implementing an agribusiness project. Young people from the South have 40% more probability of starting a business of this type than young people from the North. The implications of this study serve for those interested in the promotion of entrepreneurship in the agriculture and livestock sector, government and researchers, as well as future entrepreneurs in this business model.Actualmente el emprendimiento tiene gran importancia, tanto para emprendedores como para institucionespúblicas y privadas. En México hay pocos estudios sobre la decisión que los jóvenes toman en el emprendimiento de un agronegocio. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar el impacto de las características individuales ysocioeconómicas sobre la probabilidad de que los jóvenes decidan emprender —específicamente— un agronegocio. El trabajo se desarrolló en el territorio nacional mexicano con 3213 jóvenes. Mediante un cuestionarioy apoyo de catorce cuerpos académicos de diferentes universidades del país se levantó la información necesaria y se ha podido formar dos grupos que se diferencian entre sí, jóvenes del norte y sur. Aplicando un modelo de elección discreta binaria tipo logit se concluye que los hombres son más decididos a emprender un agronegocio que las mujeres, en el ámbito nacional y regional. La región norte de México contrasta claramente con la región sur en la decisión de implementar un proyecto de agronegocio. Los jóvenes del sur tienen 40% más probabilidad de iniciar un negocio de este tipo que los jóvenes del norte. Las implicaciones de este trabajo sirven para los interesados en la promoción del emprendimiento en el sector agropecuario, gobierno e investigadores, así como futuros emprendedores en este modelo de negocios
