In this study, the main local and management strategies for domestic pork production in peri-urban localities of Valle de México are shown. Among the first, the use and appropriation of natural resources used for livestock feeding are recognized, as well as the type of animal marketed (weaned piglet), the family workforce and the distribution of activities within the production unit. In none of the pork systems analyzed does pork production constitute the primary economic activity of the families; however, its economic contribution reached an equivalent of up to 1194 days of minimum wage per year.
