This passive winter air preheating technique utilizes the underground soil temperature, which stays fairly constant (approximately 10℃in wintertime)at a depth of 5 m. This study describes the winter air preheating performance of an underground air tunnel connected to a sma11-scale test house in Kitami. The air tunnel was installed at a depth of 4.5m.The results of these field measurements showed that underground air tunnels can reduce severe cold weather conditions in cold regions
