The coal of Taiheiyo was used to carbonization of coal under gas pressure, to determine the influence of pressure for thermal decomposition of coal. The carbonization was carried out in nitrogen at 300 to 600℃ and 0 to 80 kg/cm^2 G. It was made out by determination of the yield, gas-analyses, and infrared spectra of carbonization products that the elimination reaction of functional group in coal molecule was controled in comparatively lower temperature, the secondary reaction such as thermal cracking and condensation of produced tar was influenced greatly at 400-450℃, and reaction between gas and gas, and gas and coke were accelerated over 500℃, with increasing pressur
