The effect of the volatile-residense-time on the pressure carbonization of coal had been studied in this paper. The volatile-residense-time had an influence in proportion to its length, in respect of the yield of the product on the pressure carbonization of coal. When the volatile-residense-time becomes longer, the produced tar may occur the secondary reaction such as thermal cracking and condensation. But the volatile-residense-time had little influence on the variation of contents of carbon-monooxide, hydrogen and olefinic hydro carbon with increasing pressure
