Encountering the Hospital-Isolated Patients' Psychological Well-Being: A Literature Review

Psychological well-being is a personal concept that implies different things to different people. It is positively related to qualities such as life satisfaction, self-esteem, or internal control, and negatively related to depression or powerful others. The purpose of which is to gain knowledge of the existing scientific literature concerning the psychological well-being of hospital-isolated patients. Our research will provide information on how hospital isolation affects a patient's psychological well-being, also, identifying the difficulties nurses face while encountering an isolated patient, and most importantly, what are the nurses’ obligations and responsibilities in dealing with an isolated patient’s psychological well-being in the hospital. This study used a narrative literature review using the writer's stated inclusion and exclusion criteria. The articles were retrieved from PubMed, CINAHL, Samk Finna, and Google Scholar. The CASP checklist was used to examine the approach used for quality evaluation in each paper, and data were analyzed using inductive content analysis. The data analysis in this thesis was based on the authors' selection of eight articles from the selection procedure. The majority of the studies focused on how hospital isolation affects a patient's psychological well-being which turned out to have one thing in common: fear, stress, depression, and anxiety. Lastly, this review identified seven main nurses’ roles and obligations while dealing with an isolated patient’s psychological well-being in the hospital which include excellent patient-nurse communication, being aware of the significance of isolation precautions, providing emotional support, offering access to social media, implementing more stringent infection-prevention measures, taking care of the psychological issues, and creating the ideal physical setting for isolation. Successful care is only attainable through raising awareness of isolation precautions, reducing negative emotions, and managing those emotions
