INDONESIAN SLANG WORD FORMATION PROCESSES IN TIKTOK

Language changes over time due to changes in society and time. These changes bring out language varieties. There are four types of language varieties. They are standard, sociolect, regional dialect, and register. This study focuses on one of the kinds of language registers, namely slang words. Slang words reflect this kind of change. A lot of slang words are formed and the old ones are replaced or no longer used. Slang words also reflect human’s creativity because in slang words we can see the creative ways people invent new words or modify old ones. In this study, the researcher focuses on exploring and analyzing the kinds of slang words and each word formation processes occurring on TikTok comment section from the ‘for you page’ from June - December 2022. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative method to describe the phenomenon. From the data, the researcher found 39 slang words occurred repeatedly and there were six mostly used word formation processes. They are blending, clipping, borrowing, acronyms, prefixes and suffixes, and multiple processes. The other word formation processes were not found
