<Original>A study of factors which influence decision making on selecting a midwives' clinic and recognizing the childbirth experience in the primipara

The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors which influenced decision making on selecting a midwives' clinic and recognizing the childbirth experience at that mid-wives' clinic. Semi-structured written questionnaires were given to 24 primipara who had given birth in midwives' clinic. The results were as follows: 1. The midwives' clinic was selected by the mothers on the basis of their strong determination to proceed with childbirth without medical intervention, their trust in the midwives' clinic, the mother's view of her own health and her confidence in a smooth progress of pregnancy, the clinic's management system and its care, safe carrier system, and the understanding of the family members. 2. The childbirth experience in the midwives' clinic was recognized positively by the mothers and gave them a high degree of satisfaction and achievement. The factors supporting the above reasons were a continual and flexible personal care provided by the mutually trusted caregiver whose primary goal is to promote and respect the will of the mother and smoothly incorporate each family members role
