A life cycle assessment on a process that converts Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) to Hydrogen via Gasification at scale is presented. The produced hydrogen meets specification for fuel cells in transport applications. Crucially, the process employs the capture and permanent geological sequestration of direct carbon dioxide emissions from the transformation of waste. The process is considered a negative emissions technology i.e. Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS), with these capabilities highly dependent on the biogenic carbon fraction of the waste feedstock. The gasification process is compared to other low-carbon hydrogen alternative such as steam methane reforming and autothermal reforming with CCS and electrolysis of water
