STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION OF USING ENGLISH LEARNING ACCOUNT ON INSTAGRAM FOR LEARNING ENGLISH

Students’ Perception of Using English Learning Account on Instagram for Learning English Keywords: perception, English account on Instagram, English skills Technological developments have an impact on the way of learning, including in learning English. One of the technological developments that can be used to learn English is the establishment of the Instagram application. This application is not only for social media but can be used as a learning tool. By following English learning accounts on Instagram, students can get the English materials they need. For this reason, researchers are excited to find out students' perceptions about following English learning accounts on Instagram as an online medium for learning English. The formulation of this research question are, 1. What are English learning accounts on Instagram allow students to get more benefit for learning English?, 2. What are perceive in the advantage obtain students by following Instagram account with English content? This research is a descriptive design with qualitative approach to find out kinds of English learning account on Instagram that students get benefits in learning English and to find out advantages and disadvantages of Instagram as online medium for learning English. The data sources in this study were eighth semester English education students of UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah who followed more than three English learning accounts on Instagram and had followed these accounts for more than one year. Data were obtained from semi-structural interviews with seven students and documentation. The data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that there are several English learning accounts on Instagram that students can get more benefit in learn English. The accounts are @kampunginggrislc, @gurukumrd, @cambridgeenglish, @englishbooster, @kampunginggrism, @jagobahasacom, @simsalabim_english, @easyenglishid, @ielts_vocabulary_english_class, and @kampunginggris.online. By following English learning accounts on Instagram, students get advantages in the form of improving English skills. The English skills are listening, speaking, reading and writing. To improve these skills, students get from the English content contained in the accounts. For listening skills the content is in the form of videos and quizzes that present a spoken language. For speaking the content is in the form of spoken language content. For reading the content is in the form of posts with captions in English. And for writing skills, the content is in the form of contents which can increase vocabulary knowledge and how to use proper grammar in writing. These contents give students advantages in learning each English skill
