To the Moon and Beyond: Historical Events in the Public Space

In the last few years, the number of events, happenings, and other inputs in the public space aiming on commemorating history has distinctly grown. This master thesis tracks these current trends on a few concrete examples of events (e. g. Moon50: Back to the Moon, Milada 70, Korzo Národní) in the Czech environment, whereas it focuses in particular on actions of activist provenance. How do these events work with history and how do they interpret it? What meaning and function do historical events carry in the public space? Which remembrance practices are link with them? To these questions and many others, the thesis presents hypothesis supported by the qualitative analysis of outputs, production, and commentaries of the creators of the individual events.
