The aim of this doctoral thesis is the fabrication and characterization of novel magnetic strain-gated transistors (M-SGTs) based on suspended Zinc Oxide (ZnO) nanowires. In the past few years, there has been increased research interest regarding the development of sensors that are able to detect low-intensity magnetic fields, at the low frequency regime. Specifically, sensors based on composite magnetoelectric materials exhibit significant advantages such as high sensitivity and wide frequency range from DC to hundreds of kHz at room temperature. Such composite sensors utilize a magnetostrictive and a piezoelectric material and despite the fact that research activities are pushing towards the miniaturization of these devices, nanoscale app...
