Public use of multi-robot systems has significantly increased and such multi-robot systems are increasingly using open networks for operation, which poses new challenges for robotic systems. For example, a typical multi-robot application receives and transmits a great deal of information between sensors, actuators, and controllers via cyberspace, allowing potential security breaches. The hierarchical nature of multi-robot systems that commonly operated through supervisory control in unprotected communication channels makes itself more vulnerable to cyberthreats.
