Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Washington, 2023To control the HIV epidemic in Sub-Saharan Africa, it is crucial to increase the proportion of people who know their serostatus. In Kenya, approximately 1.6 million people are living with HIV (PLWH), of whom it is estimated that 21% are unaware of their status. Assisted partner services (APS) are programs that help to identify and locate sexual and injecting partners of individuals diagnosed with HIV, and provide these partners with testing options, connection to care, and counseling. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended that APS be broadened as a HIV tracing mechanism to locate hard to reach populations.
