This paper approaches the inversion suffered by avant-garde architecture in cinema and the role this architecture plays as an influence either on the sets, as a location or as a digital environment in speculative fiction films. From Metropolis (Lang, 1927) to The Man in the High Castle (Spotnitz, 2015-2019), through Fahrenheit 451 (Truffaut, 1966) and Alphaville (Godard, 1965), among others, narratives of anticipation have been inspired, architecturally, by real world buildings that are reflected in these films as a mirror in which we can see the inversion of reality for the construction of the worst possible world.
