Human mind and moral subject in Iris Murdoch

Murdoch se enfrenta a tales posiciones con una trama de conceptos alternativa: el mundo que habitamos los agentes morales contiene ya siempre los valores que introduce en ellos el sujeto moral a través de una conversación interna continua que depende de la atención que prestamos a unas cosas u otras, al ego o a la realidad que lo trasciende. Proponemos finalmente una fusión de horizontes entre Heidegger, Weil y Murdoch que incluye también los conceptos de amor y bien.Although few commentaries have paid attention to it, the question of consciousness and its relationship with the moral world has been present in Murdoch since his first writings and reappears forcefully in Metaphysics as a guide to morals. The modern critique of metaphysics, and in particular the critique of the Cartesian idea of the soul as substance,has left us without metaphysical images for the common-sense conception of the individual self as a moral center. How to think and imagine it now? French existentialism and British linguistic behaviorism, Sartre and Hare, share a picture of man and morality that places the center in a will that is exercised discontinuously, leaping about; this picture leaves in the shadows both the field of thoughts as that of values. Murdoch confronts such positions with an alternative web of concepts: the world that moral agents inhabit already contains the values that the moral subject introduces through a continuous “inner chat” that depends on the attention we pay to the ego or to the reality (persons and things) that transcends it. In this regard, we finally propose a fusion of horizons between Heidegger, Weil, and Murdoch which includes the concepts of love and good.Filosofí
