Gender Dysphoria: A Qualitative Study

This qualitative research study investigates gender-neutral language and the impact that it could have on the mental health of transgender non-binary (TNB) individuals. The study considers gendered terms and explores how their continued use may affect this community. This kind of qualitative research is some of the first of its kind, as only recent years have shown an increase in the awareness of this part of the LGBTQIA+ community and providing resources for young TNB individuals. The included literature review synthesizes theoretical frameworks and outlines previous research conducted in related studies. These studies examined the use of gender-affirming language and its application in the lives of LGBTQIA+ individuals. This study conducted zoom interviews with willing TNB participants to survey their opinions on this topic. The qualitative interviews investigated the gender identity journeys of these individuals and how they related to their mental health. Furthermore, their perspectives on gendered language and gender-neutral terms were examined. This valuable research aligns with the discussed theoretical frameworks, thus furthering the overall published knowledge of this community. This is significant because it contributes to a better understanding of these individuals and the betterment of their lives
