International audienceHere we study torrential activity and hydrosedimentary flows in the Cevennes using a combination of historical and geomorphological methods. The geographical analysis of torrential phenomena shows that human occupation of the land strongly modulated slope erosion between the late eighteenth and the late nineteenth centuries. A chronicle of events shows alternating periods of high sediment delivery and periods of calm. The mapping and dating of stony deposits is used to reconstruct the morphodynamic evolution and evaluate the transfer rate of bedload at the end of the LIA.
