International audienceFrom a sociological survey led with homeless people living in emergency or transitional shelter and in so-called “adapted” housing, this article deals with the institutional experience of economic deprivation in France. We propose a diachronic and synchronic description of the institutional meshing of social welfare, sheltering and managing money for homeless persons. Then, based on homeless’ lived experience, we analyse the practical and moral paradoxes of this help, as a set of typical situations.
