In the wake of the work of Alain Desrosières, which proposes a historical sociology of statistical institutions at the scale of nation-states, the thesis involves a history of regional institutions of statistical figures which have developed in France since 1940. The study of the evolution of the degree of mastery, by administrative and then political regions, of the administrations producing statistics, offers an original perspective on the process of institutionalization of regional government in France.
