Pédagogies nouvelles et compétences psychosociales : le rôle de la psychologie positive

International audienceProgressive education places the child at the center of educational institutions. They aim at engaging the students in their approach to learning in order to enable them to find meaning and empowerment in their daily activities. Life skills, defined as abilities that promote health as well as self-determination, represent a means of moving towards the goals of alternative education in schools. Focusing on the development of social and emotional learning opens new perspectives to understand the impact of positive psychology interventions in schools. These programs act on well-being, by taking into account the child’s basic psychological needs (autonomy, competence, social connectedness), identifying and cultivating the strengths of the classroom, thereby increasing positive class climate and school engagement, and help build positive teacher-student relationship.Les pédagogies nouvelles ont la volonté de placer l’enfant au centre du dispositif scolaire. Elles cherchent à l’engager dans ses apprentissages en lui permettant de saisir le sens de son activité dans une perspective émancipatrice. Les compétences psychosociales, aptitudes favorisant la santé et l’autodétermination, constituent un moyen pertinent pour opérationnaliser les intentions des pédagogies nouvelles. En ciblant des compétences liées à la gestion des émotions et des interactions sociales, elles ouvrent des perspectives permettant de comprendre l’efficacité des applications de la psychologie positive à l’école. Ces programmes permettent d’agir sur les déterminants du bien-être, en prenant notamment en compte les besoins psychologiques fondamentaux des élèves (sentiment d’autonomie, de compétence, d’intégration sociale), en identifiant et cultivant les forces de la classe pour favoriser la cohésion et l’engagement des élèves, et en permettant d’adopter une posture bienveillante
