Un registre de comptes montpelliérain : vestige d’une administration entre France et Navarre

International audienceThe study of medieval writings is renewed when they are considered as objects. This article approaches seigneurial accounts from a material point of view and according to their production context, to be integrated into the historical analysis. In addition to the materiality of their writing, the stages of their conservation allow us to understand the importance of the document at the time of its creation and that which time confers on it. Combined with the reasons for its creation, the codicological study sheds light on the administrative and control mechanisms between Navarre and France, here in the case of the seigniory of Montpellier at the end of the 14th century. An archival and historical approach to a register of accounts fills in the gaps in the documentation and makes the administration of the seigneury visible at a specific time.L’étude des écrits médiévaux est renouvelée quand ils sont considérés comme des objets. Cet article aborde des comptes seigneuriaux d’un point de vue matériel et d’après leur contexte de production, à intégrer dans l’analyse historique. Outre la matérialité de leur mise par écrit, les étapes de leur conservation permettent de comprendre l’importance que revêt le document à l’époque de sa réalisation et celle que le temps lui confère. Associée aux motifs de sa constitution, l’étude codicologique met en lumière les rouages administratifs et de contrôle entre Navarre et France ici dans le cas de la seigneurie de Montpellier à la fin du XIVe siècle. Une approche à la fois archivistique et historique d’un registre de comptes comble les lacunes documentaires et rend visible l’administration de la seigneurie à un moment précis
