International audienceThis study investigates syllabic structure, phonological inventory and word lengthof early and later acquired nouns in French pre-school and school aged children basedon three data bases : the French adaptation of MacArthur-Bates parental report, anAge of Acquisition database, and a corpus of spoken French (Corpaix). The characteristicsof acquired nouns are compared to tendencies observed in babbling as well asin adult language, in order to show how the role of articulatory constraints decreaseswith age, while the role of phonological constraints of the target language increases.Nouns that are acquired at 24 months display characteristics similar to those ofbabbling because they are both shaped by the same articulatory...
